Ukrzaliznytsia
Ukrzaliznytsia is a Ukrainian rail transport company.
Roles and functions
Ukrainian Railways developed the Food Train, an autonomous kitchen on wheels intended to deliver food to Ukrainian regions where Russian military aggression had severely damaged infrastructure.
During Russia's military aggression, Ukrzaliznytsia's work has included evacuating people from areas affected by shelling, bringing foreign delegations to Ukraine, and transporting humanitarian aid and food to areas in need.
How it works
Ukraine.ua describes the Food Train as equipped with a 400-kilowatt generator car enabling five to seven days of independent operation, with capacity to handle more than 10,000 meal portions daily.
History and changes
In 2022, Ukrzaliznytsia helped evacuate four million people, including one million children.
The GOGOLFEST festival partnered with Ukrzaliznytsia to launch GogolTRAIN, Ukraine's first art train. It carried festival-goers to Mariupol in 2019 and Kherson in 2020, making the journey itself an event involving artists, musicians, directors and public figures.
