Incheon City and the Incheon economic authority are pursuing a project to strengthen artificial intelligence (AI) monitoring systems and urban safety infrastructure and upgrade traffic data collection and integration across IFEZ. The project involves approximately 4.8 billion won and is scheduled to run for 18 months from its start date.

The Incheon economic authority plans to build an AI platform and dashboard at the monitoring center, shifting from simply watching video feeds to a system that identifies and responds to situations in real time. It also plans to expand AI infrastructure, including GPU (graphics processing unit) servers, to improve data processing performance and operational stability.

The urban safety component calls for an Internet of Things (IoT) manhole management system. Sensors and communications equipment would be installed in telecommunications manholes to detect flooding, toxic gases and displaced covers, while the traffic component would expand smart intersections to collect vehicle registration numbers, vehicle types and directions of travel and link the data with Incheon City's traffic information center.

The Incheon economic authority aims to provide a more multidimensional view of urban conditions and improve smart city operations. It said it plans to complete preliminary administrative procedures this month and issue project implementation and tender notices in November.
