Kim Ji-yong, the inaugural chief of the Major Crimes Investigation Agency, called for the swift formation of a response task force in his first directive after taking office. The order aims to organize staffing, facilities and computer systems at the agency, which secured its leadership about two weeks after its launch.

At a meeting, Kim stressed the agency's early establishment and called for the team's formation to be expedited. The team is a task force responsible for securing investigative personnel and organizing operational infrastructure, including office facilities and the Korea Information System of Criminal Justice Services, known as KICS.

Kim emphasized the need to firmly establish political neutrality and investigative independence. He also directed the agency to organize its structure promptly so that there would be no gaps in protection for vulnerable people and crime victims.

The National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee held Kim's confirmation hearing on the 15th and adopted its hearing report that day. President Lee Jae-myung also approved the appointment the same day.
