An unnamed source close to Iran's delegation said the group in New York had no plans to negotiate with the United States. The statement described the delegation's plans, without announcing any new meeting.

Trump said Sunday that he expected negotiations to resume soon. His statement followed his rejection, a day earlier, of Tehran's proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days.

Iran says it has presented seven conditions for ending the war and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Roughly 20 percent of the world's oil and gas passed through that strategic waterway before the war.

Iran's demands include a seven-day ceasefire across the Middle East, including Lebanon, where its ally Hezbollah faces regular Israeli bombardment.

Iran also demands the release of its frozen foreign assets, the lifting of sanctions on its oil sector and an end to the U.S. naval blockade.

U.S. President Donald Trump said September 27 that he expected talks with Iran to resume in the coming week, a day after rejecting Tehran's truce proposal.

U.S. President Donald Trump said Sunday, September 27, that he expected talks with Iran to resume in the coming week. His statement came a day after he rejected a truce proposal from Tehran.

Iran said Friday that it had submitted a proposal to the United States to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Trump rejected that proposal, asserting that Iranian leaders sought a deal because they were losing badly.

Renewed talks would follow indirect discussions held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York between U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

Before the war, one-fifth of the world's oil and gas flowed through the maritime route. It is central to the conflict that began with U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran in late February.

Iran has since asserted control over the strait, while Washington has imposed a blockade on Iranian ports in response.
