FSA ID
FSA ID
An FSA ID is the username and password used to access a StudentAid.gov account.
Roles and functions
The FSA ID serves as a legal signature for completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and signing federal student-aid documents. The account also provides access to financial-aid information.
The same FSA ID account is reused for applications in subsequent years and for signing in to manage federal student loans.
How it works
Road2College's guide describes email invitations for the 2026–27 FAFSA cycle: students can invite parents or spouses so those contributors can link their own FSA IDs to the application.
Scope and limitations
For the 2026–27 FAFSA cycle, Road2College's guide describes online FSA ID creation and verification for parents and spouses without Social Security numbers, allowing them to complete and sign their FAFSA sections digitally.
Each person required to provide information on a FAFSA needs their own FSA ID. Depending on the application, those people can include the student, a parent, a stepparent or a spouse.
