Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Sunday, October 25, 2026, that Iran would maintain its positions even if war with Israel and the United States resumed. His statement addressed the prospect of renewed fighting.

The remarks followed mounting U.S. and Israeli threats of renewed attacks on Iran. President Donald Trump said on Friday, October 23, 2026, that Washington might repeat the military campaign he referred to as Epic Fury, which began on February 28.

An April 8 ceasefire between Iran and the United States ended the most intense fighting. Sporadic exchanges nevertheless continued in and around the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global energy supplies.

In June, Iran and the United States agreed to a memorandum of understanding setting out a path toward a permanent settlement. That agreement subsequently unraveled, with each side accusing the other of violating it.

Araghchi also said the war had changed conditions in the region. He argued that shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz and the way the strait is managed would no longer be the same.
