President Lee Jae-myung gave final approval on the 19th to the appointments of Lee Kang-deok and Jang Han-sik, nominated by the People Power Party, as new directors of the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS). Chief presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung announced the approval in a written briefing.

The Broadcasting, Media and Communications Commission had previously approved recommending the appointments. At its 42nd plenary meeting on the 15th, the commission passed the proposal to recommend the two as KBS directors.

New director Lee Kang-deok previously headed KBS's external relations office and currently chairs the Kwanhun Club's Jung Shin-young Fund. New director Jang Han-sik previously headed KBS's news division and served as president of KBS Business.

Under the amended Broadcasting Act, the KBS board has 15 seats, including its chair. Nomination rights are allocated as follows: six seats to parliamentary negotiating groups, two to the viewers' committee, three to KBS employees, and two each to academic societies related to broadcasting and media and to lawyers' organizations.
