Air Force identifies Ian Patterson as airman who died before UTSA game

The U.S. Air Force identified Tech. Sgt. Ian Patterson late Sunday as the airman who died after falling during a military demonstration before a University of Texas at San Antonio football game a day earlier.

Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada released the identification in a statement. The base described Patterson as a 15-year veteran from Fort Stewart, Georgia.

An investigation into the incident has been launched.

The fall delayed the game by 10 minutes. The American Conference said officials decided to continue in accordance with its bylaws and with both institutions' support, before Nellis Air Force Base had publicly confirmed Patterson's condition.

UTSA said its Monument Lights and Student Union Tower lights will display a solemn white candle this week in recognition of Patterson's death.
