Trump says oil, gas and mineral exploration is set to begin in Greenland

US President Donald Trump said large-scale exploration for oil, gas and minerals was set to begin in Greenland.

In a Truth Social post on Wednesday, Trump said Greenland, a self-governing Danish territory, held some of the world's largest reserves of oil that could be extracted easily.

He did not give details of potential US involvement in the exploration.

Last month, Trump reached a security agreement with the leaders of Denmark and Greenland that expands the role of the US military on the island.

The agreement opens the way for two new military bases while reaffirming Danish sovereignty and Greenlanders' right to self-determination.

The security deal was intended to end an almost two-year crisis over Trump's refusal to rule out the United States seizing Greenland by force.
