Mamdani plans to ask Trump to remove ICE after shooting
New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani said he would ask President Donald Trump to remove ICE from the city after agents shot a man in a vehicle with his five-year-old child. The man survived.

New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani said he would ask US President Donald Trump to remove ICE from the city after federal immigration agents shot a man during an attempted arrest Thursday. His five-year-old child was in the vehicle. The 28-year-old survived and was being treated in hospital.
The New York Police Department said the shooting happened around 4pm in the Marble Hill neighborhood of the Bronx during an altercation with federal agents.
Mamdani and the Department of Homeland Security confirmed that the shooting occurred during an Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation. ICE is the agency responsible for Trump's immigration crackdown.
A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said ICE officers immediately provided aid and that the man was alive at a local hospital.
The department did not state how many officers fired their weapons or why they did so.
New York is one of several US cities that bars its police force from assisting with federal immigration enforcement.
