President Donald Trump said he will award retired MLB pitcher Roger Clemens the Presidential Medal of Freedom, praising the seven-time Cy Young winner.
President Donald Trump said he will award retired MLB pitcher Roger Clemens the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He praised the seven-time Cy Young winner as among the greatest athletes and pitchers of all time.
Trump made the announcement Wednesday night in San Antonio while campaigning for Republican attorney general Ken Paxton. Paxton is in a close Senate race against Democratic state Representative James Talarico.
The announcement followed Clemens’ introduction of Trump to the crowd at Freeman Coliseum.
The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the nation’s highest civilian honor. In announcing the award, Trump described the decision as taking the matter into their own hands.
Clemens played for the Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees and Houston Astros during a 24-year career. He retired at the end of the 2007 season.
