A Russian strike on a bus in Kramatorsk, an eastern Ukrainian city, killed at least 30 people, officials said on Thursday. The attack was among Moscow's deadliest strikes on Ukrainian civilians this year.

The Donetsk regional prosecutor's office said the vehicle was struck at 10 a.m. It put the death toll at 30 and said another 18 people were wounded. The office also said all local public transport had been suspended.

Officials said a second bus caught fire. The strike hit an area beside a dental clinic on Yuvileina Street. Police released images showing debris scattered across the street and the burned remains of what appeared to be a bus.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged Western allies on social media to take specific steps to strengthen Ukraine's depleted air defenses. His appeal came amid Russian attacks in recent weeks involving ballistic missiles and jet-powered drones.

U.S., Ukrainian and European negotiators met in Miami on Friday to seek a common proposal to end the war in Ukraine. The meeting took place as President Donald Trump's decision to ease restrictions on Russian fuel drew criticism from lawmakers and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff said afterward that the discussions explored possible ways to reduce tensions and end the war with Russia before winter. In a post on X, he described the meeting as constructive and said it advanced efforts toward lasting peace.

Witkoff said the agenda included energy resilience, grain exports and security guarantees. Participants also discussed longer-term arrangements for the security of Ukraine and Europe intended to prevent future conflict.

Trump's previous efforts to broker an end to the war have stalled over Moscow's extensive territorial demands. Russia has insisted on controlling all of Ukraine's eastern Donbas region, including areas that remain under Kyiv's control.

Zelensky has rejected giving up territory held by Ukraine. He has warned that Russia could use such territory as a base from which to launch another attack.
