Trump urges Ukraine to stop strikes on Russian diesel

U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to stop strikes on Russian diesel, saying the attacks were causing a global shortage. His appeal followed U.S. diesel prices reaching a record Friday, with the national average exceeding $6 a gallon.

Ukraine has targeted Russia's oil and gas industry with long-range strikes for months. The campaign prompted fuel rationing and a Russian diesel export ban in July, contributing to disrupted global supplies. The shortage also followed the war on Iran, which curtailed oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking to reporters at the Irish Open at his Doonbeg golf club, Trump said Zelenskyy needed to stop targeting diesel fuel in Russia.

Kyiv says Russia's oil industry finances and directly supplies fuel for Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, which has lasted more than four years.
