Ted Cruz faces boos while promoting college sports bill on ESPN
Sen. Ted Cruz drew nearly 10 minutes of boos during a Saturday morning ESPN interview ahead of the Texas–Ohio State football matchup.
Sen. Ted Cruz, a Texas Republican, promoted his congressional college sports bill during an ESPN interview on Saturday morning as fans booed for nearly 10 minutes. The appearance came ahead of the college football matchup between Texas and Ohio State.
The proposed Protect College Sports Act would let the NCAA enforce its own rules unilaterally on issues including revenue sharing with college students and athletes transferring between schools. It would also shield the NCAA from antitrust liability. The NAACP and AFL-CIO oppose the proposal over its implications for college athletes’ voice and power.
Other supporters have also used ESPN airtime to advocate for the legislation. They include former Alabama football coach Nick Saban and sports host Pat McAfee, who have publicly supported the bill on the network.
