President Donald Trump offered to send $5,000 checks to every adult in the United States if Republicans win both the House and Senate in the November midterms. The offer drew cheers, with the promised payments explicitly tied to Republican victories in both chambers.
The proposed payment would be called the Trump Dividend, he said at Wednesday's GOP convention in Dallas. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent applauded the announcement.
Trump's earlier cash promises included $2,000 checks linked to tariff revenue and $5,000 checks linked to anticipated DOGE savings. Those were earlier pledges, distinct from the latest proposed payment.
At Wednesday's convention, described as the first of its kind for the midterms, Trump also urged the crowd to treat him as a candidate: “Pretend that I am running.”
