Pilot flagged excessive speed before Amazon cargo plane crashed in Miami
An NTSB investigation update describes repeated cockpit warnings about excessive speed and inconsistent verbal responses as an altitude alarm sounded.
A pilot aboard an Amazon cargo plane that crashed Sunday in Miami, Florida, noted that it was traveling too fast before it overran a runway. New flight data describes an approach that ended with the aircraft hitting vehicles and catching fire.
The US National Transportation Safety Board said in an investigation update that one pilot repeatedly warned the other about excessive speed. Verbal responses were inconsistent, the update said, even while an altitude alarm was sounding.
The released flight data covers speed, altitude and flap deployment during the approach. The update also contains a summary of the conversation between the two pilots, adding cockpit communications to the aircraft's recorded movements.
After overrunning the runway, Amazon Prime Air Flight 7598 struck ground equipment and a white Ford van before passing through a perimeter fence.
The aircraft then hit a Toyota Corolla and stopped about 1,300 feet beyond the runway.
