A White House spokesperson said Wednesday that Trump has long given Christmas gifts to people around him, including employees and aides in government and private business. The spokesperson said these gifts were unrelated to the recipients' official duties and were permissible under applicable legal and ethical standards.
The recipients hold several roles around the president. Harp is a special assistant and executive assistant, while Martin is a special assistant and communications adviser in the press office. Harris is deputy director of Oval Office Operations, and Nauta leads that office.
